Itemize your belongings

It’s a lot of work to itemize your belongings. The list of clothes, electronics, kitchenware, and the list goes on…Itemizing can be quite intimidating and extremely time consuming. However, it’s better to do them now than later. This is probably the last thing you want to think about doing when dealing with a claim. Take baby steps and create a list of items in your home one step at a time. Here’s an example of how you can make this work.
If you live in a 4 bedroom house, go through each room weekly. Open up a spreadsheet and list the items including the brand, dollar amount, and the estimated date of purchase. Try to be as descriptive as possible.
Make sure to organize the spreadsheet by creating a new sheet for every room. Continue to update the spreadsheet any time you purchase an asset. These simple steps will save you from a lot of pain later.
